IIA NZ Emerging Auditors Mentorship Forum 2026

The IIA NZ Emerging Auditors Mentorship Programme is a core component of the IIA NZ professional pathway, sitting alongside the IIA NZ Training Programme (with Massey University) and the University Connect initiative.

The programme is designed for IIA NZ members who are in the early stages of their internal audit careers and are seeking structured mentorship, guidance and networking opportunities as they build their skills and confidence. It provides a safe and supportive forum where Emerging Auditors can:

  • Ask practical questions and test ideas in a peer environment
  • Hear from experienced practitioners and subject matter experts
  • Build confidence in their professional identity as internal auditors
  • Connect the theory and content of the IIA NZ Training Programme with real-world practice.

These workshops complement:

  • The IIA NZ Training Programme (Foundational Introduction to Internal Auditing Certificate) delivered with Massey University

By including both New Zealand and Pacific-based members, the programme supports diversity of experience, cross-jurisdictional learning, and reflects the wider IIA NZ territory.

Who should attend?

This mentorship stream is designed for Emerging Auditors who:

  • Are in the first 0-4 years of their internal audit career (or in a closely related risk/assurance role), and/or are university students who are IIA NZ Student Members.
  • Are seeking guidance, mentoring and practical insight as they navigate the early stages of their professional journey.

Typical participants include:

  • Internal audit analysts / advisors / seniors in their first 48 months
  • University students enrolled in, or recently completed, the IIA NZ Training Programme and who are IIA NZ Student members
  • New student members and early-career professionals transitioning into internal audit.

Benefits:

  • Mentorship Platform: The forum functions as a mentorship platform for those who are new or in the early stages of their Internal Audit career, facilitating knowledge sharing, professional development, and networking opportunities.
  • Hybrid Event Format: The forum adopts a hybrid format to accommodate both in-person and online participation, ensuring accessibility for emerging auditors across New Zealand.
  • Inclusivity: The forum welcomes participation from a diverse range of emerging auditors, including students enrolled in the IIA NZ training programme, new members, and those who have recently entered the auditing profession.
  • Free for Members: This forum is offered free of charge to IIA NZ members, reinforcing our commitment to supporting emerging auditors in their professional development.

Event Overview:

  • Date: 19 February 2026
  • Time: 9:00 - 10:30 am (hybrid event; Teams online link provided)
  • Location: KPMG, 18 Viaduct Harbour Avenue, Auckland CBD, Auckland
  • Speaker: Tanvi Mohite
  • Topic: The role of internal audit vs organisational risk management

Overview:

In the dynamic realm of corporate governance, the roles of internal audit and organisational risk management are experiencing profound shifts. Once seen primarily as the "organisational policemen," internal audit functions focused on compliance and irregularity detection. This traditional perspective, however, only scratches the surface of their evolving influence.

Modern internal audit teams are advancing into strategic roles, offering pivotal insights and robust risk assessments that underpin business transformation. They are instrumental in sculpting governance frameworks, refining strategic directions, and enhancing organisational resilience. This transition marks a critical evolution, where internal audit is no longer just about oversight but is integral to driving sustainable success and innovation across the organisation.

Speaker Bio:

Tanvi is a seasoned risk professional who leads the Enterprise Risk service, offering subject matter expertise to organisations across various sectors to enhance their risk management practices. With extensive experience in risk management at major banks and corporations in New Zealand and abroad, Tanvi has successfully completed complex risk engagements and secondments in New Zealand.

Her expertise includes a deep understanding of effective risk governance practices, articulating the Board's risk appetite, developing and implementing risk management frameworks, risk and control cadence, and challenges faced by risk functions of today.
